Frequently asked questions.
How ByeByeApply works, who it's for, and why we do it this way.
The product and who it's for
What is ByeByeApply?
ByeByeApply is a career platform built around your forward-looking talent profile — not backward-looking job history. You create a talent profile about what you want to do next and how you work best, follow companies that feel right, and get discovered without bias. Companies can browse talent anonymously through ByeByeApply and reach out when there's a match. We focus on Norway.
Who is ByeByeApply for?
Two main groups: career-aware professionals who want to own their career and shape what's next (our main side), and people actively looking for a job right now (the job seeker side). Both use the same platform — explore companies, create your talent profile, and connect. Companies use the B2B side to discover motivated, pre-qualified talent.
How is ByeByeApply different from LinkedIn or job portals?
LinkedIn and job portals look backward: they focus on your history, job titles, and where you've been. ByeByeApply looks forward: what you want to do next, what you're good at, and how you work. Your talent profile is anonymous — no name, photo, or timeline — so matching happens on fit and contribution, not bias. Companies browse without seeing who you are, until you choose to connect.
What's the difference between a talent profile and a traditional job history?
Traditional job histories are a record of the past — job titles, employers, dates, education. A talent profile is a statement about the future — what you want to work on, how you operate, what makes you effective. Your ByeByeApply talent profile has no work history. It shows your superpower, how you work best, your unique angle, and what you're looking for. Companies who read it learn whether you'd fit what's coming — not just what you've done before.
Do I need to apply for anything?
No. ByeByeApply is not a job portal. You create a talent profile that shows what you want to do next — companies discover you anonymously when there's a match. You can also start a dialogue with companies you're curious about, but you never need to submit anything.
How it works
How does the platform work?
In four steps: (1) Discover — browse 2,100+ companies that welcome direct outreach and like at least 5 that feel right. (2) Create your talent profile — a short AI-guided conversation creates your anonymous talent profile (superpower, how you work, your unique angle, what you're looking for). (3) Share and connect — share your talent profile link or set it to public so companies can discover you. (4) Get discovered — companies browse talent through ByeByeApply, an anonymous search tool. They see your talent profile without knowing who you are and can request to connect.
What share of jobs are never posted publicly?
Research shows roughly 70% of all jobs are never publicly posted. They're filled through networks, direct outreach, and internal promotions — often called the hidden job market.
Do I have to wait for a posted job before reaching out to a company?
No. Find companies you're curious about, read about them, and start a dialogue directly. You don't need a posted job.
Why do I need to like at least 5 companies?
Liking companies teaches the platform what kind of place you belong — industry, size, culture, location. We call this Company DNA. It's revealed preference, which is more reliable than questionnaires. You need to like at least 5 before you can publish your talent profile, so matching becomes meaningful.
What is my talent profile and who can see it?
Your talent profile is a short, forward-looking page: your superpower, how you work best, your unique angle, and what you're looking for. It doesn't show name, photo, age, or work history. You control visibility with three settings: Public (discoverable via search engines and ByeByeApply), Shared (only people with a direct link), or Private (only you). You also have a separate toggle to control whether you appear in ByeByeApply's anonymous company browsing.
Can I contact companies directly without an account?
Yes. The company directory (/companies) is publicly accessible — no account required. Anyone can browse 2,100+ Norwegian companies that welcome direct outreach and send their own message. An account gives you tools: AI message generation, follow-up reminders, activity tracking, and a talent profile that companies can discover.
ByeByeApply — anonymous talent discovery
What is ByeByeApply?
ByeByeApply is the anonymous browsing layer for companies. Companies search and filter talent by skills, preferred tasks, industries, and locations — without seeing names, photos, ages, or other identifying information. Only when a talent chooses to respond to a connection request does identity become visible. That's how we make the first stage of hiring compliant by design.
How do I control whether I appear in ByeByeApply?
Use the 'Visible to companies' toggle in your talent profile settings. It's opt-in — you're not visible by default unless you turn it on. You can turn it off any time. Turning it on doesn't reveal your identity; companies still only see your anonymous talent profile. Your name and contact details stay hidden until you choose to respond to a connection request.
Can someone find me via Google and break my anonymity in ByeByeApply?
No — we prevent this by design. If you turn on the 'Visible to companies' toggle, your talent profile page is automatically excluded from search engine indexing, even if the profile is set to Public. This ensures a company browsing in ByeByeApply can't re-identify you by searching for your profile text online. If you turn off company visibility, the public talent profile can be indexed normally.
Is ByeByeApply compliant with GDPR and hiring regulations?
Yes. ByeByeApply is designed from the ground up to reduce structural bias and meet privacy obligations. No AI scoring or algorithmic ranking is used — results are sorted only by last updated date. That means there's no automated decision-making requiring transparency under GDPR or the EU AI Act. Talent explicitly opt in, and companies never see identifying information unless the talent chooses to share it.
Bias-free and anonymous
Why is my talent profile anonymous?
So matching is bias-free. Names, photos, and timelines can trigger unconscious bias. We remove these so companies only see what matters: what you want to do, what you're good at, and how you work. You decide when to reveal your identity — for example, when you respond to a connection request.
What do companies see (and not see) about me?
They see: your superpower, the tasks and problems you like to solve, how you work best, what you're looking for in a company, your skills, preferred industries and locations. They don't see: your name, photo, age, work history, education, employer names, or career gaps.
Does AI write my talent profile — and can that introduce bias?
Your talent profile starts with an AI-guided conversation that asks about what you want to do next, how you work best, and what makes you unique. The AI generates a first draft based on your answers. We've instructed it not to include names, ages, school names, employer names, or demographic markers. You can edit everything afterwards — and for the text shown in company browsing, we run an automatic filter to remove identifying information. Your full text stays intact on your own talent profile page.
Can I trust that companies won't figure out who I am from the text?
We automatically remove known bias signals before the text is shown in company browsing — age indicators, school names, employer names, and similar patterns. No automated system catches everything, so the safest approach is to write about what you can do and how you work, rather than where you did it. Your settings page shows a tip with the same guidance as you write.
Company DNA
What is Company DNA?
Company DNA is what we learn from the companies you like. If you like 5 startups and 2 scale-ups in Oslo, we infer that you prefer small to medium, purpose-driven companies in that location. We don't ask you to describe your ideal company in the abstract — we see it from your choices. More likes mean sharper DNA and better matching.
How is Company DNA used for matching?
When we recommend companies to you, we use your existing likes. When companies look for talent through ByeByeApply, they can discover people whose Company DNA fits — for example, people who already like similar companies. It helps both sides discover better matches than keyword or title matching.
For companies
How can companies use ByeByeApply?
Companies that join get access to ByeByeApply — an anonymous talent browsing tool. They can search and filter talent by skills, tasks, preferred industries, and locations without seeing names or identifying details. They can also see who already likes their company — people who have shown direct interest. When they discover a match, they send a connection request; the talent gets an email and decides whether to respond and reveal identity.
What is ByeByeApply and how does it help companies hire fairly?
ByeByeApply is a search and filter tool for talent — no AI scoring, no ranking, no profiling. Results are sorted only by last updated date. That means the tool is inherently compliant with GDPR's restrictions on automated decision-making and the EU AI Act's rules on high-risk AI in hiring. Companies discover motivated, pre-qualified talent based on what the talent want to do and how they work — not who they appear to be on paper.
What does 'who follows us' mean for companies?
It means you can see how many people have added your company to their list and what kind of work they want to do. You see anonymous talent profiles so you can reach out to people who fit what you need. These are talent who have chosen you — people who picked you before you knew they existed.
How do connection requests work?
When a company wants to connect with a talent, they send a connection request through the platform. You receive an email notification — but they never see your email address. You choose whether to respond and share your identity. They get no access to personal data unless you consent.
Why we built it this way
Why is direct outreach a message, not a form?
By design. When you reach out to a company through ByeByeApply, you send a personal email or LinkedIn message — the same kind of direct contact you'd make on your own. No forms, no ATS submission, no rejection button, and no formal process mediated by the platform. The recipient at the company gets your message like any other email. This is intentional: we believe the best career conversations start as person-to-person contact, not documents in a queue.
Why is there no AI scoring or ranking anywhere on the platform?
Because we don't think AI should decide who gets seen first. ByeByeApply is a database filter, not an AI system. Companies search by skills, tasks, preferred industries, and locations using filters they set themselves. Results are sorted only by last updated date. No match scores. No fit percentages. No algorithmic ranking. This keeps the tool simple, transparent, and free of the bias that scoring systems can introduce.
Does AI make any decisions about talent or companies on this platform?
No. AI on ByeByeApply has one role: to help talent express themselves. The AI-guided conversation during onboarding helps you find the right words for what you want to do next and how you work. The AI message generator helps you draft a personal outreach — like having a writing assistant before you send an email. AI does not rank talent, filter results for companies, score fit, or influence who gets discovered. All decisions — who to reach out to, who to respond to — are made by humans.
What does 'compliant by design' actually mean?
It means we made deliberate architecture choices to avoid regulatory risk, not just legal box-ticking. No AI scoring = no automated decision-making that requires GDPR transparency. No formal process = outside the scope of AI regulation for talent discovery. Opt-in anonymity = talent control their own exposure. Bias-free text = AI-generated content removes demographic signals before companies see it. These aren't features we added to comply — it's how the product works.
Practical
Which companies are in the directory?
ByeByeApply has gathered over 2,100+ Norwegian companies. You can filter by location (Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, etc.), industry, and company size.
Why don't I see the public sector in the directory?
We focus on private businesses because they have the flexibility to hire directly based on an open inquiry. The public sector is required to post jobs publicly and treat all applicants equally — they can't hire someone based on an informal inquiry like through us.
Is ByeByeApply only for Norway?
Yes. Our company database and focus is on Norwegian companies. The platform supports both Norwegian and English speakers in Norway, including expats moving to Norway for work.
How do I get in touch or get help?
